On June 4th 2019, members of the PETRI Sofia team, the EVS volunteers Viktorija and Angela from North Macedonia organized a workshop with high school students in the National High School in Finance and Business in Sofia. They introduced their roles in the organization and presented the Y-PEER Network and its main areas of work, as well as the current activities of PETRI Sofia.
The goal of the workshop was to increase the understanding of the students about different types of human rights, and recognize the differences between civil and political and social and economic rights. Also, it aimed to improve the skills of argumentation and critical thinking among the students and encourage them to take follow-up actions with their peers. There were 20 students who actively participated in the workshop and they were open to share their opinions about complex human rights-related dilemmas.
At the end, we concluded the workshop with summarizing students’ points of view and providing our insights from the discussion. Also, we reflected on the importance of human rights discussions, elaborated on ideas for educational activities which students can do in their communities, and got their feedback from the whole process.
We are grateful to the school officials from the National High School in Finance and Business and the students for supporting and participating in this activity!
